Laughter from Pain
Jessica Dawson has organic schizophrenia. She has had delusions and can occasionally hear voices. In addition to mental illness, Jessica also has rheumatoid arthritis, making many activities difficult. Through her participation with Stand Up For Mental Health, a program that teaches stand up comedy to people with mental illness, Jessica has learned to find the humour in her pain. She’s also learned how to tell a joke.
Her story was recorded as a part of The Cost of Not Caring published by USA Today.
