FTC Can't Stop Facebook's Rush Toward Total Info Awareness


Hey, Mark Zuckerberg! You look like a billion bucks, buddy! Actually, make that 24 billion bucks.
Meanwhile, you, dear reader, look like ... $125, give or take a few greenbacks.
Those numbers are based on The Wall Street Journal's report last week that Facebook is finally getting serious about floating an IPO in the second quarter of 2012 that would value the company at $100 billion. Facebook CEO Zuckerberg holds a 24% stake in his company; Facebook says it has more than 800 million active users. If the $100 billion valuation holds but Facebook hits the billion-user mark -- which seems entirely possible by next spring -- the price per user will drop to roughly $100.

In other words, Mark Zuckerberg's stock is rising, but yours sure isn't.

New School Response to Occupation at the New School Student Study Space

Over the last few days, this university reaffirmed a commitment to some of our core values: open-minded dialogue and social justice. I have received hundreds of impassioned emails about the occupation of the Student Study Center. Some of you have commended the participants for their involvement and shared with me how much you have gained. Others have been outspoken at the loss of study space, labor issues, and overall conditions at 90 Fifth. This afternoon at the public forum, I learned once more how strongly many feel about the occupation. In order for the university to continue with its central mission as an educational institution, it is clear we must address the occupation as a community.

The gym is my shrink each morning. After I’ve gotten my girls ready for school — thank God they wear a uniform, so there is no morning quandary as to what they should wear — I put on my gym uniform: One Step Up boot-cut exercise leggings and a T-shirt usually from a charity benefit gift bag. Today’s tee was from Trudie Styler and Sting’s annual Rainforest Foundation benefit.
